HM the King Inaugurates Tangier Med Passengers Port

Tangier - HM king Mohammed VI, accompanied by Prince Moulay Ismail, inaugurated, on Tuesday in Fahs Anjra, the Tangier Med Passengers port, worth 2.2 bln dirhams (about $ 244 mln).

Aiming to set up a maritime bridge to boost trade between Morocco and Europe, the new port consists of eight berths and has a capacity of 7 million passengers, 2 million vehicles and 700,000 TIR trucks annually.
The facility includes an access and border inspection area for TIR traffics, similar areas for passengers and vehicles, a 760 square metres of offices and 1,750 square metres of shops.
The port, the second of the Tangier Med complex, provides access to ferry and roll-on roll-off traffic. It required the building of 2.5 kilometre-long seawalls.
On this occasion, the CEO of the Tangier-Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA), Said El Hadi, handed a book on the complex to HM the King.
The Monarch also visited the site of the Tangier Med 2 port to inquire about the progress of this project that aims at increasing the handling capacity of the complex’s containers from 3 to 8 million units.
